This area of law includes all types of insurance disputes, such as disputes between claimants and their insurance companies about claims, and also legal and regulatory issues affecting insurance companies and insurance brokers.
Having previously spent more than 10 years all up working for insurance companies, including two of Australia largest insurers, and having also managed an insurance broking office before I became a lawyer, I have solid
experience of most areas of insurance and insurance law. Since becoming a lawyer in 1998, I have undertaken work on complex insurance claims, insurance-related litigation, and regulatory compliance matters.
I have a special interest in several specific areas of insurance law:
• Marine and aviation insurance, including vessel claims, cargoes, general average, salvage, and actions involving the recovery of losses from negligent shippers and other parties.
• Professional indemnity policies and claims, including disputes about claims against architects, doctors, engineers, lawyers, nurses, and other professionals where negligence in a professional capacity is alleged.
• General insurance claims which includes property claims arising from fire, earthquake, weather and other risks, disputed consequential loss and liability claims, and also circumstances where a claim is filed
late and the insurer denies liability.
